Installation and availability

Item from the comparison article Quality Inspector
Included with Business Central by default ☐ — installed separately
Available through Microsoft AppSource ☑ — for supported SaaS environments
Minimum supported Business Central version BC 13.3; BC 14 requires 14.3 or newer
On-premises deployment ☑ — use the appropriate on-premises build

These deployment facts do not mean Microsoft continues hosting every older SaaS version.

Footnotes

[1] The field wizard states BC 23.3 SaaS as its minimum for AI field suggestions. Earlier BC 23 minor versions are excluded. This capability is excluded from on-premises builds.

[2] BC 24 supports AI result entry using a configured Azure OpenAI endpoint. The Microsoft-managed resource path has a compatibility limitation from BC 24.3 onward. Microsoft-managed AI resources are SaaS-only. Voice input also depends on the client’s speech-input capability.

[3] The label report and PDF API require BC 26. SaaS includes the barcode fonts used by the supplied report. On-premises supports the label report, but barcode rendering requires suitable fonts or a customized layout.

[4] BC 21–25 includes the supplied alternative RDLC layouts. The supplied Word layouts for the inspection report, Certificate of Analysis and NCR require BC 26. Standard report printing is available on earlier versions.

[5] Automatic inspection creation has different requirements by trigger. The current code connects purchase-receipt and production-output events from BC 14; purchase-receipt item-tracking details and tracked production-release generation require BC 16. Warehouse-receipt creation is documented from BC 15, warehouse-receipt posting and sales-return receiving require BC 19, and transfer receiving requires BC 20. BC 13.3 retains production release/refresh and sales-to-production paths, with limitations for tracked items.

[6] Earlier versions support field substitutions and numeric expressions embedded in text. The richer string functions and special related-table lookups require BC 18.

[7] The specialized mobile pages exist on older versions, but their available actions vary. Several disposition actions require BC 14 or 16, camera capture requires BC 17, and package-tracking selection requires BC 18. Later AI, labels and other capabilities retain their separate requirements.

[8] Basic web-service access exists on older versions. BC 13 has API field-name restrictions; SystemId-based keys and the corresponding Power Automate integration improvements require BC 16. External business events, PDF endpoints and adaptive cards have separate requirements.

[9] Direct lot-blocking methods exist on older versions, but the standard Business Central workflow route for automatically blocking following a grade change is documented from BC 15. This is separate from transaction-specific warehouse blocking, which requires BC 19.

[10] The Shop Floor Insight integration exists on older versions, but its employee-based QI permission user type and related permission-page integration require BC 15.   Older versions can use Shop Floor Insight quality inspections, which is where Quality Inspector the app originated from.

[11] The comparison article lists Warehouse Insight and Maintenance Manager integration. Their exact minimum BC versions were not established from the available integration source and documentation, so these cells are deliberately unverified.

[12] Current source and published release notes disagree on these requirements. “Partial” identifies source implementation without a consistently verified deployment/version requirement:

  • Skip-lot logic has no BC-version or SaaS-only guard in the inspected implementation; release notes specify BC 26 SaaS or newer.
  • Related email-attachment code is guarded for BC 22 or newer; release notes specify BC 26 SaaS or newer and exclude on-premises.
  • Adaptive-card generation/API code is guarded for BC 26 or newer; release notes specify BC 27 SaaS or newer for Teams data entry.
  • PDF report-attachment creation code is guarded for BC 25 or newer; release notes specify BC 26.

[13] External business events require BC 22.2, however are intended for SaaS-only to work with Power Automate.

The comparison article supplies the feature inventory; version qualifications come from the source and documentation.

This is a source-based compatibility matrix, not installation or runtime testing on every BC version.

That a checkbox exists does not guarantee that we run regression testing on that feature for that runtime version when an app update is made, this is not a list of guaranteed supported items.
