Shop Floor Insight allows an employee to start an operation and then select a different work center or machine center by scanning its barcode.

This is useful when production is planned at the work center level, but the actual work is performed on one of several individual machine centers. The production routing can remain scheduled against the broader work center while Shop Floor Insight records the time against the specific machine that was used.

Before You Begin

The following must already be configured:

• The work centers and machine centers must exist in Business Central.
• A Shop Floor Work Center must be created for each work center or machine center that employees may select.
• The employee must have a Shop Floor Insight badge.
• The production order routing operation barcode must be available.

Print the Work Center or Machine Center Barcodes

1. In Business Central, search for SFI Generate Barcode Sheets.
2. Open the report.
3. Select the work centers or machine centers that employees may use as alternate machines.
4. Preview or print the report.
5. Place the printed barcodes near the applicable scanning station or equipment.

Select the Machine Used for an Operation

At the Shop Floor Insight scanning station:

1. Scan the employee badge to sign in.
2. Scan the production order routing line barcode to clock in to the operation.
3. Scan the barcode for the work center or machine center being used.

Shop Floor Insight updates the open production time card line to use the scanned work center or machine center.

When the time is posted, the capacity and time are posted against the selected work center or machine center rather than the center originally assigned to the production routing line.

Example

A production routing operation is planned against work center CUTTING, which represents the cutting department.

The employee performs the operation using machine center LASER-02:

1. The employee scans their badge.
2. The employee scans the production operation barcode.
3. The employee scans the LASER-02 barcode.

The routing operation remains part of the production order planned for the cutting work center, but the resulting time is recorded against LASER-02.

Confirm the Selected Center

After scanning the work center or machine center barcode, review the open time card line in Shop Floor Insight. The line should display the selected work center or machine center before the employee continues working.
