Add Attachments to Inspection Test Plans and Quality Inspection Tests in Quality Inspector

You are here:

Attachments in Quality Inspector can be added both to the Quality Inspection Template and a Quality Inspection Test itself. Attachments are crucial for quality inspections by providing both guidance and evidence.

For example, during the design phase, a food processing company might attach a detailed sanitation procedure or ingredient specification sheet to a quality inspection template to ensure operators follow consistent standards. In manufacturing, engineers may link a machine setup diagram or torque specification chart so shop floor staff have clear work instructions; during execution, inspectors can add attachments, such as photos, of weld seams in automotive assembly, scanned copies of calibration certificates for measuring devices, or lab test reports confirming chemical composition. This ensures inspections are not only carried out consistently but also documented with verifiable proof of compliance or failure.

You can add attachments during the design phase (Template) to act as specifications or work instructions, or you can add attachments during the execution phase (Test) to help provide evidence of pass or failure on the test itself.

Prerequisites

  • Use a W1-ENU-Extended base data with “Contoso” sample demo data as a baseline with the “WHITE” location, the “WRB-1002” item, and the “40000” vendor.
  • Ensure the Assisted Setup Wizard was run.
  • Have a quality inspection test template.
  • Have a quality inspection test generation rule.
  • Have a quality inspection test for the “WRB-1002” item with a known lot.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Quality Inspection Templates in Business Central.
  2. Select the template chosen for this test and select Manage / Edit.
  3. Add an attachment in the Template Attachments FactBox (drag and drop the file or use Attachments / Upload files).
  4. Create a new test for the same template and same item, but for a different lot.
  5. Edit the test.
  6. Select the Attachments FactBox area.
  1. Upload an image in the Attachments FactBox (drag and drop the file or use Attachments / Upload files).

There is now an attachment specific to the test in the Attachments FactBox section, and the original template attachment in the Template Attachments FactBox section.
