Setup

Shop Floor Insight can also be used from supported Warehouse Insight handheld devices. This allows operators to access Shop Floor Insight functions, such as scanning into production operations, from an industrial handheld device with a screen instead of using only a tablet or workstation. This option is intended for environments where operators already use Warehouse Insight handheld devices on the shop floor and want a scanning-focused workflow for production activity.

The Shop Floor Insight Add-on Catalog application is designed for landscape-oriented industrial devices so that additional production information can be shown alongside the main workflow. This layout provides room for panels such as work instructions, bills of material, operation details, and related production context while the operator is working. Smaller handheld screens can be useful for focused scanning workflows, but industrial tablet-style devices are typically better suited for the full Shop Floor Insight experience.   To work on smaller handheld scanners with smaller screens you might need to customize to work with your specific process, such as hiding panels and hiding columns that are not relevant to your particular process.

Prerequisites

• Business Central 14 and newer
• Insight Works Common 2.17 and newer
• Warehouse Insight Advanced WMS 2.15 and newer
• Shop Floor Insight 7.15 and newer

Install

1. Publish required extensions.
2. Install Shop Floor Insight Warehouse Insight applications:
   1. Navigate to the Warehouse Insight Add-on Catalog in Business Central.
   2. Select Shop Floor Insight and select Install.
3. Configure users who require access the Warehouse Insight app as Shop Floor Employees.

Configuration Adjustments

This application is optimized for tablets in a warehouse setting. To configure the recommended display settings:

1. Select the Configure option in the Warehouse Insight application.
2. Select the Device option.
3. Modify the following fields:
   • Font Size: Small
   • Grid Header Font Size: Small
   • Grid Data Font Size: Small
   • FactBox Landscape Height (%): 50
   • FactBox Landscape Width (%): 25

Output and Consumption Batches

Configure the Item Journal Batches to use via the Shop Floor Client Configuration page.

Consumption Quantity Behavior

Consumption quantity dialog values are controlled by Warehouse Insight Scan Behaviors:

1. Navigate to Warehouse Insight Scan Behaviors page in Business Central.
2. Find the SFI_CONSUMPTION record.
3. Modify the following values as required:
   • Scan Quantity Behavior
   • Manual Quantity Behavior

Additional Settings

Warehouse Insight Device Configuration: Allow Post

This enables the Post action in the Shop Floor Consumption application that allows posting of the registered Item Journal Lines.

User Guide

When the Shop Floor Insight application is launched in Warehouse Insight, the system:

• Attempts to find a Shop Floor Employee with a matching User ID,
• Identifies a Shop Floor Client Configuration based on the IP address,
• Creates or finds a Shop Floor Time Card for the found Shop Floor Employee (if one exists), and
• Opens the configured Default View (Prod. Order or Time Card) if a Shop Floor Client Configuration is found.

Production Application

The Production application displays Production Order Routing Lines based on the Shop Floor Setup settings under the Global Dispatch group and the Shop Floor Client Configuration setting Prod. Routing Custom Filter.

FactBoxes

• Work Instructions: Displays general Production Order comments and comments specific to the selected Production Order Routing Line.
• Output History: Displays posted and unposted output details for the related Production Order Line (not operation specific).

Actions

• Close: Closes the Shop Floor Insight application.
• Time Card: Navigates to the Time Card application.
• Clock On: Clocks the user onto the selected Production Order Routing Line; requires a selected line.
• Clock Off: Clocks the user off a Production Order Routing Line; requires a selected line and the user must clocked into that line.
• Output: Opens the Output application for the selected Production Order Routing Line; requires a selected line and a valid Production Order Routing Line (based on Output Entry value); respects the Shop Floor Client Configuration settings, Output Entry and Output Clock On Behavior.
• Consumption: Opens the Consumption application for a Production Order Routing Line; requires a selected line; respects the Shop Floor Client Configuration setting Consumption Clock On Behavior.

Time Card Application

The Time Card application displays Shop Floor Time Card Line data for the current Shop Floor Employee. This application is configured to listen to Shop Floor Time Card scans (e.g., Scanning a Production Order Routing Line clocks the user onto the scanned Production Order Routing Line).

• Close: Closes the Shop Floor Insight application.
• Production: Navigates to the Production application.
• Clock Off: Clocks the user off a Shop Floor Time Card Line; requires a selected line and the user to be clocked into that line.
• Output: Opens the Output application for a Production Order Routing Line related to the selected Shop Floor Time Card Line; requires a selected line and a valid Production Order Routing Line (based on Output Entry value); respects the Shop Floor Client Configuration settings, Output Entry and Output Clock On Behavior.
• Consumption: Opens the Consumption application for a Production Order Routing Line related to the selected Shop Floor Time Card Line; requires a selected line; respects the Shop Floor Client Configuration setting Consumption Clock On Behavior.
• Delete Line: Deletes a Shop Floor Time Card Line; requires a selected line; respects Shop Floor Function Permission.

Output Application

The Output application is used to record output against Production Order Routing Lines to the configured Output Batch Name. When the application is first opened, the quantity dialog opens automatically. The following Shop Floor Client Configuration settings are respected:

• Output Batch Name
• Set Initial Output Quantity To

FactBoxes

• Output Details: Displays Production Order, Production Order Line, and Item-specific details. Not specific to a selected line but updates when output is recorded.

Actions

• Close: Closes the Output application. The user is redirected to either the Time Card or Production application depending on the application from which Output was called and the Output Clock On Behavior.
• Manual Output: Opens a quantity dialog with conditional fields; item tracking specific fields are displayed when recording output against the last operation and dependent on the Item Tracking Code of the Item.
• Scanning a recognized Item/Serial No./Lot No.: Populates the quantity dialog with the found record’s values; respects Insight Works Barcode Rules.
• Scanning an unrecognized barcode:
  • If the Item is Lot tracked, the system presumes the unknown scan is a Lot No.
  • If the Item is Serial tracked, the system presumes the unknown text is a Serial No.
  • If the Item is both Lot and Serial tracked, the system assumes the unknown text is a Lot No.

Consumption Application

The Consumption application displays Production Order Components and is used to record Consumption to configured Consumption Batch Name. This application is a copy of the Warehouse Insight Consumption application with a few enhancements. The following configurations are respected:

• Shop Floor Client Configuration: Consumption Batch Name
• Warehouse Insight Scan Behaviors: Scan Quantity Behavior and Manual Quantity Behavior

The Open Qty. field displays the expected quantity minus the posted consumption quantity. The Used field displays the posted quantity plus the unposted quantity.

Actions

• Close: Closes the Consumption application. Depending on the application from which Consumption was called and the Consumption Clock On Behavior, the user will be redirected to either the Time Card or Production application
• Manual Consumption: Opens a quantity dialog with conditional fields. Item tracking specific fields are only displayed if the item is item tracked; requires a selected line.
• Recording Consumption via Scans: If the Location is Bin Mandatory, a Bin scan is required, then the user is prompted to scan an Item, and if a line match is found, the consumption quantity dialog opens; respects Insight Works Barcode Rules and Warehouse Insight Find Line Templates.
• Register: Creates Item Journal Lines in the configured Consumption Batch for all consumption that was recorded against the Production Order Routing Line. This action is operation specific and registers recorded consumption for the Production Order Routing Line in context.
• Post: Posts the Item Journal Lines in the configured Consumption Batch; operation and employee specific; respects Warehouse Insight Device Configuration: Production → Consumption → Allow Post.
• Show Usage: Displays the Production Order’s unregistered consumption recorded; Operation Code is hidden by default, but it is recommended to display this column to help distinguish between operations.
• Item Inquiry: Base Warehouse Insight application functionality.
• Bin Inquiry: Base Warehouse Insight application functionality.

Register Consumption Process

1. Enter the Consumption application (select a Shop Floor Time Card Line or a Production Order Routing Line and using the menu action Consumption).
2. Complete one of the following:
   • Scan a Bin/Item.
   • Select a Production Component Line and select Manual Consumption.
3. Input required details in the quantity dialog and select OK (the Used value increases).
4. Select Show Usage to view the recorded consumption entry.
5. Modify the visibility of the Operation Code to distinguish consumption recorded from other operations (in Show Usage view you can modify/delete recorded consumption).
6. Select Register to create Item Journal Lines for the consumption that was recorded.

A successful Register will display a message of how many Item Journal Lines were created. The Used quantity remains the same, but the entries no longer reside in the Show Usage application.
