Configure PrintNode Connector

The following sections describe the various configuration tasks required to set up Insight Works PrintNode Connector.

PrintNode account

PrintNode is the default API supported by Insight Works PrintNode Connector. Before the add-on can be used in Business Central, you must first register an account with PrintNode, download and install the client, and create an API key.

Register your account with PrintNode

  1. Navigate to https://app.printnode.com/login/register
  2. Input your information and create your account.

Download and install the PrintNode client

You must complete Register your account with PrintNode instructions before downloading and installing the PrintNode client.

  1. Navigate to https://www.printnode.com/en/download
  2. Select Download (PrintNode client begins downloading).
  3. Open the .exe file and follow the installation prompts.
  4. Configure the installation, as needed.
  5. Select Finish (PrintNode is now set up).
Note: Installing PrintNode Connector will add the associated permission sets (e.g., PRINTNODE SETUP and PRINTNODE USER) that can be added to user group permission sets or user permission sets.

API Keys

API keys allow you to give access to your PrintNode Account while maintaining control over usage. You must have registered, downloaded, and installed PrintNode before starting the following instructions. If you have not, complete Register your account with PrintNode and Download and install the PrintNode client instructions.

Create API key

  1. Log into your PrintNode account.
  2. Select API Keys (page opens).
  3. Input your account password and select Next.
  4. Input the API key description and select Create (API key appears in the list).
  5. Copy the API key and save for later use (e.g., the API key is needed in PrintNode printer setup).
Note: If you do not copy the API key, you may return to your PrintNode account to view the API key.

Delete API key

  1. Log into your PrintNode account.
  2. Select API Keys (page opens).
  3. Input your account password and select Next.
  4. Select the icon in line with the API key (prompt opens).
  5. Select OK (API key is deleted).

PrintNode printer setup

The following instructions guide you in setting up your PrintNode printer using an API key. If you have not already done so, ensure you have completed Create API key instructions or have an API key to use before continuing.

Apply API key to PrintNode Setup

  1. Click the icon and input Insight Works PrintNode Setup.
  2. Select Insight Works PrintNode Setup under Go to Pages and Tasks (page opens).
  3. Input the API key copied from the PrintNode account (prompt opens).
  4. Select Yes (PrintNode printer is now set up).
Note: PrintNode Account URL, PrintNode Printers List URL, and PrintNode Print Job URL automatically fills when an API key is entered.

Configure PrintNode Printers

Once the PrintNode printers have been set up, you can navigate to the Printer Selections page to configure which printer to use for directly printing reports.

  1. Click the icon and input Insight Works PrintNode Setup.
  2. Select Insight Works PrintNode Setup under Go to Pages and Tasks (page opens).
  3. Select Printer Selections (page opens).
  4. Select Edit List.
  5. Input or modify information in the following fields:
    1. User ID
    2. Report ID
    3. Printer Name

Note: Report Caption automatically fills once the Report ID is selected.

Note:  Specific printer selections have a higher priority over general printer selections. For example, a printer selection with values in the User IDReport ID, and Printer Name fields has priority over a printer selection with blank entries in the User ID or Report ID fields.

PrintNode Printers

Set PrintNode Printer to Print Specific Reports

When a printer is set up and assigned to specific reports in the Printer Selections page, you will see the selected printer specified in the report request page prior to printing. The report will be sent directly to the PrintNode printer. Complete the following to set the PrintNode Printer to print specific reports.

  1. Click the icon and input Printer Selections.
  2. Select Printer Selections under Go to Pages and Tasks (page opens).
  3. Select Edit List.
  4. Input information in the following fields, as needed (autosaves when selections are made):
    1. User ID
    2. Report ID
    3. Printer Name

Note: Report Caption automatically fills once the Report ID is selected.
