Graphical Scheduler FAQs

You are here:

What do production orders need to be scheduled by the Graphical Scheduler?

For scheduling in the Graphical Scheduler, production orders require operations (routings steps). The tool relies on Business Central’s production order data, and having clear start and end dates, work centers, and capacity allocations improves visual clarity and effectiveness.

Can the Graphical Scheduler be extended to display any data point in Business Central?

Yes. You can configure the scheduler to visualize data from any table, including custom tables, by specifying start and end times. This flexibility allows you to build views for tasks, picks, quality inspections, and more.

Can I create a view showing scheduled purchase receipts or sales shipments?

Yes. For example, using the order date as the start and the shipment date as the end, you can plot purchase or sales order timelines. Note that standard Business Central data, like sales headers, may lack time fields, so timelines may span unrealistically long periods unless adjusted.

Can the user interface show a single day with 15-minute increments?

Yes. The Graphical Scheduler supports zoom levels down to 15-minute increments. You can configure this through presets or use the “Go to Specific Date” function and select your preferred increment level.

In the tooltip template, can I add the project number from the sales order?

Yes, but only if the data source includes the project number. If it doesn’t exist on the source table (e.g., production order routing line), you need to extend the table with that data or use a customization to make it available in the tooltip.

Can you schedule and track Transfer Orders?

Yes. If you want to schedule or visualize transfer orders, the Shipment Date can be the start, and the Receipt Date can be the end. Note that without time fields on the transfer order, the scheduler assumes a full-span duration (e.g., days or weeks) between dates.

Do you have to use Planning Worksheets for the Graphical Scheduler to work?

No. The scheduler simply reads production orders. As long as production orders exist—regardless of how they were created (e.g., from sales orders or order planning)—they can be visualized and managed within the Graphical Scheduler.

Can we use Assembly Orders instead of Production Orders?

Yes. The Graphical Scheduler can be configured to display and manage Assembly Orders using the starting and ending date times on the Assembly Order, and a custom field or field like “Assigned User ID” as the Y-axis. You can drag and drop the assembly orders if they are assemble-to-stock. Assemble-to-order assembly orders would require some customization to allow dragging and dropping. Note that since the Assembly Orders do not have time fields, all schedule durations are in days unless custom time fields are added.

When configuring color codes, where do the filter options come from?

The available filter fields for color coding come from the data source table used in the view. For example, if you’re visualizing production order routing lines, only fields from that table will be available for filters unless extended.

What Permission Sets do I need?

Minimum permission sets for Graphical Scheduler should be:

  • GRAPHICAL SCHEDULER
  • IWORKS COMMON
  • IWX REG REGISTRATION
  • LOCAL
  • LOGIN
  • And, any other Business Central permission sets required for that functionality (for example, if they use projects/jobs, manufacturing, or assembly they would need appropriate permission sets for that functionality).
