How to Record Quality Inspection Tests on a tablet, phone, or other mobile device

You are here:

Quality Inspector has several options to record quality inspection tests on a tablet, phone, or other mobile device.

  • Business Central phone or tablet app, along with the “Quality Inspector – Phone Optimized” or “Quality Inspector – Tablet Optimized” role centers. These interfaces are optimized for mobile data entry and work on devices that support the Microsoft Business Central phone or tablet app.
  • Warehouse Insight app, allowing quality inspection tests to be recorded on barcode scanners and ruggedized mobile devices. These interfaces support Android and Windows devices.
  • Business Central web app, allowing quality inspection tests to be recorded from any device with a supported web browser.
  • Shop Floor Insight integration, providing optimized data entry for recording inspection results while reporting production output or recording time. This is especially useful for in-process inspections, operator checklists, and production-floor quality activities.
  • Microsoft Teams, along with Power Automate, allowing users to record inspection results from devices that support Microsoft Teams.
  • Paper-based inspection forms, where completed inspection documents can later be uploaded and processed using Microsoft Azure Document Intelligence.

Business Central phone and tablet modes

Quality Inspector provides additional role centers optimized for recording quality inspection tests using the Business Central phone and tablet apps. These role centers use specialized pages designed for efficient mobile data entry and support configurable brick layouts for touch-friendly navigation and inspection recording.

These interfaces require a standard Business Central user license appropriate for the data being accessed.

Available role centers include:

  • Quality Inspector – Phone Optimized
  • Quality Inspector – Tablet Optimized
  • Quality Inspector

Industrial and Ruggedized Scanners with Warehouse Insight

The Warehouse Insight app is available as an add-on integration for Quality Inspector (see Warehouse Insight Quality Inspector Integration). This provides another option for recording quality inspection tests on Android-based mobile devices and ruggedized warehouse scanners running Warehouse Insight.

The interface is optimized for smaller screens and fast data entry in warehouse and production environments.

This interface is especially useful for scenarios such as:

  • Recording inspections during receiving activities
  • Performing forklift-based quality checks
  • Completing final visual inspections before shipment
  • Recording checklist-style inspections in warehouse operations

This interface can be used with a Business Central device license and may also be used with user-based licenses, depending on the deployment scenario.

In-progress inspections with Shop Floor Insight

Shop Floor Insight provides a specialized interface that integrates with Quality Inspector and is optimized for recording quality inspection tests during production activities. This includes scenarios such as recording production output, performing in-process inspections, and completing operational checklists during manufacturing activities.

Users can create and complete ad-hoc inspections and embedded inspection tests while recording production output.

This interface is best suited for scenarios where the operator producing the part is also responsible for completing the quality inspection tests. The interface is commonly used on fixed shop-floor terminals but can also be used on tablets in some environments.

This interface is typically deployed using Business Central device licensing.

For an example of recording quality inspections while reporting production output, see Quality Inspections when Recording Output.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams can be used to capture quality inspection information and measurement test results by leveraging the adaptive cards capability of Quality Inspector.

For more information on configuring Adaptive Cards with Power Automate to allow capturing quality inspection data through Microsoft teams see Use Adaptive Cards in Teams and Power Automate with Quality Inspector.

Paper

In some scenarios, paper forms remain the most practical option for recording quality inspection tests or operational checklists.

Quality Inspector supports paper-based inspection processes by integrating with Microsoft Azure Document Intelligence to convert completed paper inspection documents into a digital format for processing within Business Central.

For more information about configuring Azure Document Intelligence and related storage services for paper-based inspection processing, see Set Up and Configure Azure Blob Storage and Azure Document Intelligence with Quality Inspector.”
