Block and Unblock Lot Transactions in Quality Inspector

You are here:

Quality Inspector provides multiple methods for controlling the availability of inventory based on the quality inspection resulting grade.

You can:

  • Automatically block or unblock lots by using workflow responses.
  • Block inventory immediately when a quality inspection test is created with a workflow.
  • Block inventory immediately when a quality inspection test fails with a workflow.
  • Unblock inventory immediately when a quality inspection passes.
  • Use License Plate Management quarantine processes to control inventory movement at the license plate level.

Example: Block a Lot When a Quality Inspection Test Fails

  1. Navigate to Workflows.
  2. Create a new workflow.
  3. In the When Event column, choose A Quality Inspection Test is Finished.
  4. In the On Condition column, create a filter where Grade Code equals FAIL.
  5. In the Then Response column, choose Block Lot in the Test.
  6. Enable the workflow.

When the Quality Inspection Test has finished and has the FAIL grade, the workflow automatically blocks the lot using Business Central’s standard lot blocking functionality.

Example: Block a Lot When a Quality Inspection Test Is Created

  1. Navigate to Workflows.
  2. Create a new workflow.
  3. In the When Event column, choose A Quality Inspection Test is Created.
  4. In the Then Response column, choose Block Lot in the Test.
  5. Enable the workflow.

When a Quality Inspection Test is created, the workflow immediately blocks the lot. This approach is commonly used when inventory must remain unavailable until testing has been completed.

Example: Unblock a Lot When a Quality Inspection Test Passes

  1. Navigate to Workflows.
  2. Create a new workflow.
  3. In the When Event column, choose A Quality Inspection Test is Finished.
  4. In the On Condition column, create a filter where Grade Code equals PASS.
  5. In the Then Response column, choose Unblock Lot in the Test.
  6. Enable the workflow.

When the Quality Inspection Test has finished and has the PASS grade, the workflow automatically removes the lot block, allowing the lot to be used in normal inventory transactions.

Example: Block on Creation and Unblock on Pass

Many organizations combine the previous two workflows.

  1. Create a workflow that blocks the lot when a Quality Inspection Test is created.
  2. Create a second workflow that unblocks the lot when the Grade Code is PASS.

With this configuration, inventory is automatically blocked while testing is in progress and automatically released when the inspection passes.

Example: License Plates

You can also use the License Plating capability from Insight Works to quarantine and un-quarantine the license plate that the lot is currently on.

In addition to workflows and license plating you can also configure automatic blocking for lots based on the current grade.
