User Logins

You are here:

Each user must sign into the handhelds. To check your user login credentials, navigate to Users in Business Central.

User Permissions

Each user must have the appropriate permissions in Business Central to perform the operation requests on the devices.

We recommend giving each user at least the following two permission sets:

  • IWORKS COMMON
  • IWX REG REGISTRATION
  • WHI – ALL

These permission sets are created when the Warehouse Insight extension is installed. They contain access to most pages, tables, reports, and more included in the extension.

    If we use additional InsightWorks user with OAuth, which table in Business Central we can track the InsightWorks user who posted something on the handheld device with Warehouse Insgihts?

      Hi Jessie,

      In Business Central, you can navigate to the “Warehouse Insight Device Activity Entries” page. This page will track InsightWorks user activity on the devices.

    We are planning to use Device Subscription Licenses. The Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide (from February 2024) states that: “Device licenses may use shared logins (such as ‘Warehouse Computer’ and a shared password) or individual logins (each user’s personal credentials), depending on the application and license: … Individual logins are available for … Business Central Device licenses (with no separate user license required).”

    Are you familiar with this setup? In this case, am I correct to assume that the permissions suggested above would be assigned to the Device SL? Or could those permissions also be granted to the “individual logins”, even though those logins do not require a separate user license?

    Related: with the Device SL/Individual (non-licensed) Login setup, will actions (such as Ad Hoc Movements) be traceable to the Individual Login that performed the action?

      Hello Nick,

      You can either use concurrent device license pooling to allow a group of users that have been set up in Dynamic 365 Business Central Device Users group, to grab licenses from the pool up to the total license count and their activity will be tracked in the Device Entries table. Or they can give a Business Central account with a device license to each handheld as designated scanner accounts and then use Insight Works users which is set up within Business Central, over top of that to track activity on the Device Activity Entries.
