Use the Sample Source feature on the Quality Inspector Template

You are here:

In Quality Inspector 7.22 and earlier, AQL was the only way to automatically default in a Sample Size. In newer versions of Quality Inspector, the Sample Source is defined on the Quality Inspection Template and influences how the Sample Size is populated on a Quality Inspection Test.

Sample Sizes are always individual units that represent a partial sampling of the original quantity. For example, if a test is for a lot of 100, only 5 may be sampled. Sample Sizes are typically defined with AQL configuration.

Sample Source allows two new, simpler mechanisms of defaulting in a sample size; you can use this when a product is always produced in specific lot sizes and does not require AQL configuration to define the Sample Size.

Fixed Quantity

The Fixed Quantity allows defining a specific fixed quantity to sample.

When you set Sample Source to “Fixed Quantity”, the Sample Fixed Amount field becomes available to define the fixed sample amount.

If the resulting sample size exceeds the Fixed Quantity, the Source Quantity is used instead.

Percent of Quantity

The Percent of Quantity allows defining a simple percentage to sample.

When you set Sample Source to “Percent of Quantity”, the Sample Percentage field becomes available to define the percentage. The percentage is rounded up to the nearest unit.

If the resulting sample size exceeds the Percent of Quantity, the Source Quantity is used instead.

AQL configuration

The AQL configuration is the default behavior, and the behavior of versions of Quality Inspector from 7.22 and earlier.

When AQL configuration is chosen, the fields allow using the “Default AQL Grouping Code”, “Default Inspection Level”, and “Default AQL” to use AQL configuration tables to lookup the appropriate sample size to use from the Quality Inspector Sample Size Configurations table (defines the sampling plan code based on the lot size), and the Quality Inspector AQL Sampling Plan table (maps the sampling plan code, inspection level, and Acceptable Quality Limit to a given sample size with defined Acceptance Points and Rejection Points).
