4. Item Inquiry

You are here:

The Item Inquiry application provides information about Items the system. Core features of this application include:

  • General Item Information
    • Quantity on hand
    • Locations/Quantity per bin
    • Transaction History
  • Printing labels

You can access the Item Inquiry application from the Home screen by clicking the Item Inquiry link. When launched, the Item Lookup List page will be displayed.

Item Inquiry Lookup List

The Lookup List page allows you to either scan or select the item you need to view.

Item Inquiry

Use the filter bar to filter the lookup list to specific Items based on item number or description.

If a barcode is scanned, the Barcode Rules will be executed as normal to decode the barcode. If the barcode returns a lot or serial number, then the item information will be filtered to that lot or serial.

Item Inquiry Lookup List Columns

The Item Inquiry Lookup List can show the following columns.

Column Description
No. The item number.
Description The item’s description.
Description 2 The item’s description 2.

Item Management

When you scan or enter an item in the Lookup List, it displays the item’s details.

1 The available menu options:

  • Close
  • Recent Transactions
  • Show Picture
  • Print
  • Select Serial/Lot
2 Item details.
3 Bin contents for the item.

You can switch items by scanning a different item barcode from this screen without exiting back to the Lookup List page.

Bin Contents

The Bin Contents displays all the bins that the item is currently located in. This information is driven from the Bin Contents, but lines with a quantity of zero are excluded.

Item Inquiry Bin Contents Columns

The Bin Contents can show the following columns.

Column Description
Bin The bin the item is currently in.
Qty The quantity of that item in the bin.
Pick Qty. The quantity currently on Pick documents.
Put-away Qty. The quantity currently on Put-away documents.
Available Qty. to Take The quantity that can currently be taken.
Unit of Measure Code The Unit of Measure for the Bin Content entry.

Item Inquiry Menus

The menus below are available when viewing an item. Menus may be added or removed as required from the Device Menus page under the ITEM_INQ_DOC Application.

Close (Menu)

Closes the screen and redirects the user to the Lookup List screen.

Recent Transactions (Menu)

The Recent Transactions page provides a summary of the most recent activity for the item. You may control the number of transactions shown by setting Item Inquiry Max. Transactions in the Warehouse Insight Setup page.

Show Picture (Menu)

If you specified a picture for the item (Item Card > Picture), it is displayed when Show Picture is pressed.

Print (Menu)

When you press Print, a request is sent to Business Central to print an item label. You can configure which label report is run in the Insight Works Report Selections with the Item Label usage.

The software provides a sample report that you can use as a reference for printing Item Labels (e.g., report WMDM Item Barcode Label, ID: 23044511). If designing your own label report, review the internal structure of this report as it is designed to work in a variety of printing scenarios (e.g., Business Central, Item Inquiry, Receiving, and Output).

If a lot or serial number has been selected, this is included in the label report

Choose LN/SN (Menu)

When Choose LN/SN is pressed, a list of in stock lot/serial numbers for the handheld location is shown.

Selecting a Serial/Lot number and pressing OK causes the Item Inquiry screen to refresh with your selection. This is useful for re-printing labels for specific lot/serial numbers or viewing lot/serial information when you don’t have the item label currently available for scanning.
