Move Product Automatically from One Bin to Another Bin in Quality Inspector

You are here:

This article describes how to automatically move inventory after a quality inspection has occurred.

Moving product from one bin to another within the same Business Central location can be a way for you to quickly move product to quarantine locations. You can use this strategy to help move product into testing areas based on other triggers. You can change bins for quarantining an item either while a test is being executed (receive items, put into a quarantine location, then move out of quarantine once passed), or after the test fails (receive items, put in warehouse, test a sample, move the entire lot if the sample fails). The strategy depends if you are testing 100% of the units or sampling (often process and industry specific). This is a variation of location movements.

Prerequisite

  • Use a W1-ENU-Extended base data with “Contoso” sample demo data as a baseline with the “WHITE” location and the “WRB-1002” item, and vendor “40000”.
  • Ensure the Assisted Setup Wizard was run.
  • Have a quality inspection test template.
  • Have a quality inspection test generation rule.
  • Have a Quality Inspection Test for the WRB-1002 item with a known lot; keep the lot unblocked and available to be shipped.
  • Ensure all batches are defined on the Quality Inspection Setup page; batches are not set up by default in the wizard.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Quality Inspection Tests in Business Central.
  2. Create a test for a DPP location, such as “WHITE” (easiest is to trigger an automatic test based on a put-away), for a lot tracked item.
  3. Navigate to Workflows.
  4. Create a new workflow, and modify the following fields:
    • Code
    • Description
    • Category
  5. Select the When Event field in the Workflow Steps section and select “A Quality Inspection Test is Finished”.
  6. Select the On Condition field and set to “Always” (opens an edit box to set a filter).
  7. Select +Filter and set the filter so that “Grade Code” is “FAIL”.
  8. Select OK.
  9. Select the Then Response field and set to “Move Inventory”.
  10. Select OK.
  11. Leave the source location and source bin filters blank in the conditions subpage that opens.
  12. Select Use a Reclassification Journal.
  1. Select Entire Lot/Serial/Package (the most common scenario as it allows moving for both 100% sampling and partial sampling).
  2. Leave the Destination Location field as “WHITE”.
  3. Select an appropriate bin in the Destination Bin field.
  4. Select Just Create Entries.
  1. Close the screen.
  2. Enable the workflow.
  3. Close the workflows screen, and located the quality inspection test.
  4. Input fail values into the test.
  5. Finish the test (your new workflow triggers, and a reclassification journal entry is created).
  6. Open the reclassification journal batch (it should be attempting to move the item from the source bin to the destination bin).
