Basic Barcode Generation

While Barcode Generator is intended as a developer tool, there are several reports included for immediate use. You can add linear (Code39) or 2D (Data Matrix) barcodes to reports in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. You can also modify existing reports or you can create new reports with barcodes. Complete the following instructions and refer to the table below to generate and print barcodes and barcode sheets.

Print a barcode

This report allows you to enter any value manually. Since it includes the barcode formats and settings it is a good way to test a configuration before creating your own reports.

  1. Click the  icon and input Barcode Generation.
  2. Select Barcode Generation under Go to Pages and Tasks (page opens).
  3. Select an option from the Barcode Format dropdown (selection affects which fields you can modify).
  4. Input content into the Barcode Content field (mandatory).
  5. Modify available fields, as needed.
  6. Select Print (barcodes generate and window opens).
  7. Select Print (barcodes print).

Note: The Selected Printer field is not modifiable.
Note: Send to… allows you to export the barcode to an external document type such as PDF, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Schedule. Selecting one of these options creates and downloads the specified document type with the barcode.

Print Generic Item Barcode Label

This report uses the data matrix format. Items may be filtered by Filter: Item fields or Item Filter: Ledger Entry fields. A barcode for each No. field under Filter: Item will be generated along with a barcode for the Routing No. field, when applicable.

  1. Click the icon and input Generic Item Barcode Label.
  2. Select Generic Item Barcode Label under Go to Reports and Analysis (page opens).
  3. Modify fields, as needed.
  4. Select +Filter to add additional fields, if needed.
  5. Select Print (barcodes generate and window opens).
  6. Select Print (barcodes print).
Note: Send to… allows you to export the barcode to an external document type such as PDF, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Schedule. Selecting one of these options creates and downloads the specified document type with the barcode.

Print Generic Bin Label

This report uses the data matrix format. Bins may be filtered by the Filter: Bin fields. A barcode for each Bin field under Filter: Bin will be generated.

  1. Click the icon and input Generic Bin Label.
  2. Select Generic Bin Label under Go to Reports and Analysis (page opens).
  3. Modify fields, as needed.
  4. Select +Filter to add additional fields, if needed.
  5. Select Print (barcodes generate and window opens).
  6. Select Print (barcodes print).

Print Generic Location Label

This report uses the data matrix format. Locations may be filtered by the Filter: Location fields. A barcode for each Code field under Filter: Location will be generated.

  1. Click the  icon and input Generic Location Label.
  2. Select Generic Location Label under Go to Reports and Analysis (page opens).
  3. Modify fields, as needed.
  4. Select +Filter to add additional fields, if needed.
  5. Select Print (barcodes generate and window opens).
  6. Select Print (barcodes print).
Note: Send to… allows you to export the barcode to an external document type such as PDF, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Schedule. Selecting one of these options creates and downloads the specified document type with the barcode.

Print barcode sheets

This report filters barcode sheets by Filter: Shop Floor ActivityFilter: Shop Floor Work Center, Filter: Fixed Asset, Filter: Shop Floor Employee, and Filter: Service Line fields.

  1. Click the  icon and input Generate Barcode Sheets.
  2. Select Generate Barcode Sheets under Go to Reports and Analysis (page opens).
  3. Modify the fields, as needed.
  4. Select +Filter to add additional fields, if needed.
  5. Select Print (barcodes generate and window opens).
  6. Select Print (barcodes print).
