Use Numeric Expressions (Calculated Field) in Quality Inspector

You are here:

A numeric expression allows you to create a calculated field with simple numerical expressions as a Quality Inspector field. You can define the field’s expression when creating the template, but the field is read-only on a Quality Inspection Test.

Add a new calculated field to a template

The goal in this example is to create a calculated field called VOLUME.

  1. Navigate to Quality Inspection Templates in Business Central.
  2. Select the template you want to add a calculated field to.
  3. Select Add Field(s) To This Template.
  4. Enable New Field and select Next.
  5. Input a description (e.g., “Volume”).
  6. Select Advanced Configuration in the What type of data is it? field.
  7. Select Next.
  8. Select Numeric expression in the Field Type field (Expression Formula is enabled).
  9. Select the … button for the Expression Formula field.
  10. Select Add Inspection Field, select Length, and select OK (expression updates to display “[LENGTH]”).
  11. Modify “[LENGTH]” to “[LENGTH]*”.
  12. Select Add Inspection Field, select Width, and select OK (expression updates to display “[LENGTH] * [WIDTH]”).
  13. Modify “[LENGTH] * [WIDTH]” to “[LENGTH] * [WIDTH]*”.
  14. Select Add Inspection Field, select Height, and select OK (expression updates to display “[LENGTH] * [WIDTH]*[HEIGHT]”).
  15. Select Close.
  16. Select Finish.

The VOLUME field has been added. If the fields LENGTH, WIDTH, and HEIGHT were not previously on the template, the system asks you for each field.

After the field is added to the template, you can edit the expression directly on the template in the Expression Formula column.
