Support Inventory Picks

There are two ways to support inventory in Dynamic Ship:

  1. Make inventory picks two stage picks.
  2. Support the inventory pick document in Dynamic Ship.

Two Stage Inventory Pick

To enable two stage picking for inventory picks you must install an extension that alters the base Business Central pick registration process. See Two Stage Inventory Pick for more information.

The article is targeted towards Warehouse Insight users; however, anyone using Insight Works products can install the extension.

Skip to the alternative instructions for install, download the app file, and deploy it to your Business Central tenant.

Follow the remaining instructions for configuration.

Support Inventory Pick Documents

The following is implemented in this example:

  1. Show inventory picks in Order Packaging (hides the sales orders for said location).
  2. Scan an inventory pick into the Package Worksheet (with the %cd% prefix or by using just the document number).
  3. Pack the pick partially or fully, updating the quantity to handle on the pick accordingly.
  4. Label the packages.
  5. Update the sales order with the selected carrier information and tracking.
  6. Add a freight line to the sales order, if configured.
  7. Leverage the shipment and package options that are defined on the sales order.
  8. Post the inventory pick, respecting the posting date and the posting and print behavior.

    Since Dynamic Ship does not currently support inventory picks out of the box, that is something that you would need to include in the extension if you want to alter the behavior. The source is provided just as an example, so you can modify it however you want.

    Just a thought, when you add freight based on an inventory pick, have you considered using the “Attach to inventory item line” to link it to one of the lines on the pick?

    Linked non-inventory items or resources will post when the inventory items post from a pick if they are linked.
