Create a Transfer Order to Move Material from a Directed Pick Environment to a Non-Warehouse Location in Quality Inspector

You are here:

You can use transfer orders to move material between Business Central locations in a controlled and traceable way, which you can use for quarantine or other scenarios (e.g., external lab testing). You can change locations for quarantining an item while executing a test (receive items, put into a quarantine location, and move out of quarantine once passed), or after failing a test (receive items, put in warehouse, test a sample, and move the entire lot if the sample fails). The strategy depends on if you are testing 100% of the units or sampling (often process and industry specific). You can also transfer to an external testing lab (another location).

Prerequisites

  • Use a W1-ENU-Extended base data with “Contoso” sample demo data as a baseline with the “WHITE” location and the “WRB-1002” item, and vendor “40000”.
  • Ensure the Assisted Setup Wizard was run.
  • Have a Quality Inspection Test template.
  • Have a Quality Inspection Test generation rule.
  • Have a Quality Inspection Test for the WRB-1002 item with a known lot; keep the lot unblocked and available to be shipped.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Quality Inspection Tests in Business Central.
  2. Create a test for a DPP location, such as “WHITE” (easiest is to trigger an automatic test based on a put-away), for a lot tracked item.
  3. Navigate to Workflows.
  4. Create a new workflow, and modify the following fields:
    • Code
    • Description
    • Category
  5. Select the When Event field in the Workflow Steps section and select “A Quality Inspection Test is Finished”.
  6. Select the On Condition field and set to “Always” (opens an edit box to set a filter).
  7. Select +Filter and set the filter so that “Grade Code” is “FAIL”.
  8. Select OK.
  9. Select the Then Response field and set to “Create Transfer Order”.
  10. Select OK.
  11. Leave the source location and source bin filters blank in the conditions subpage that opens.
  12. Select “EAST” location (non-warehouse tracked) in the Destination field.
  13. Select an appropriate In-Transit Code in the Transfer Details field.
  14. Close the screen.
  15. Enable the workflow.
  16. Locate the Quality Inspection Test.
  17. Input fail values into the test.
  18. Finish the test (your new workflow triggers, and a transfer order is created).
  19. Open the reclassification journal batch (it should be attempting to move the item and lot with the appropriate quantity from the directed pick location to the non-directed pick location).
