Payment Providers in Counter Sales

You are here:

Counter Sales supports payment providers, third-party services that authorize and settle card transactions. Counter Sales handles order entry and sends transaction details to the provider. The provider processes the payment and returns an approval or decline. Because payment providers are independent companies, you must set up a merchant account directly with them and manage their separate portal.

When choosing a provider, confirm it supports your payment channels (card-present: swipe, chip, and tap; card-not-present: manual entry and saved cards), your countries and currencies, and any refund or void workflows you need at the point of sale.

How Counter Sales connects to payment providers

Counter Sales includes a built-in payment provider framework that serves as the bridge between the application and a provider’s API. Because each provider uses a different API and workflow, a separate extension is required for each one.

Ready-made integrations

Insight Works offers pre-built extensions for several payment providers: Credit Card Processors.

Before getting started, keep the following in mind:

  • Functionality may vary by region.
  • Some provider capabilities may not be covered by the extension.
  • Verify that your required features are supported with both the provider and Insight Works.
  • An active payment provider account is needed before testing in Counter Sales.

What providers support

Depending on the provider and extension, Counter Sales can support:

  • Manual card entry: Enter card details directly in Counter Sales for card-not-present transactions.
  • Saved cards: Store cards against a customer or contact for future use. Sensitive card data is held securely by the payment provider, not in Business Central.
  • Terminals (EMVs): Connect physical payment devices (swipe, chip, and tap) so that payment amounts pass directly from Counter Sales to the terminal.

You do not see your provider

If your preferred payment provider is not listed, contact us to see if an integration is planned.

If no integration exists or is planned, a custom extension is required. Partners and customers with in-house development capability are encouraged to build a custom extension. We provide a reference example on how to integrate Stripe with the Counter Sales payment provider framework.

If a provider offers an API or has an existing Business Central app, building a Counter Sales extension may be feasible.

If you require Insight Works to develop an integration extension, we can scope it through our Custom Modifications process.
