You can configure a Graphical Scheduler view so users can see scheduled information without being able to change it by dragging and dropping.

This can be useful when you want to provide visibility into a schedule without allowing users to make scheduling changes from Graphical Scheduler.

Common examples include:

• Preventing accidental drag-and-drop changes by users who only need to review the schedule.
• Providing a read-only kiosk or shop-floor display.
• Giving supervisors, planners, customer service users, or other teams visibility into the schedule without allowing them to reschedule work.
• Allowing users to continue maintaining the underlying Business Central records while preventing schedule changes from Graphical Scheduler.
• Creating separate views for users who can schedule and users who only need to monitor.

For example, you might allow most users to view Production Orders in Graphical Scheduler while only a small group of planners can drag and drop them to change the production schedule.

Graphical Scheduler Read-Only Permissions vs. Read-Only Data

The IWX GS READ ONLY permission set controls access to Graphical Scheduler itself. For example, it can allow users to view existing Graphical Scheduler views without allowing them to modify Graphical Scheduler configuration or create their own views.

It does not, by itself, make the data displayed in a Graphical Scheduler view read-only, this is done through Permission Sets on the underlying data itself.

To prevent users from changing displayed records by dragging and dropping them in Graphical Scheduler, configure the applicable data source’s Update Mode.

Configure a Data Source as Read Only

1. Navigate to Graphical Scheduler.
2. Select View.
3. Select the view you want to change, and then choose Edit.
4. On the Graphical Scheduler View card, locate the Configure What Displays In This View section.
5. Find the data source that you want users to view without changing.
6. In the Update Mode column, change Allow Writes to Read Only.

When Update Mode is set to Read Only, users can continue to view the data in Graphical Scheduler, but they cannot change that data through drag-and-drop scheduling.

Business Central Permissions Still Apply

Setting Update Mode to Read Only only controls whether Graphical Scheduler can write changes back through that data source.

It does not remove the user’s underlying Business Central permissions.

For example, a user may be unable to drag and drop a Production Order in Graphical Scheduler but still be able to open and modify that Production Order from a standard Business Central page if their assigned permission sets allow it.

If users should also be prevented from modifying the underlying records elsewhere in Business Central, assign more restrictive Business Central permission sets.

Use Separate Views for Different User Groups

If some users should be able to make scheduling changes while others should only be able to view the schedule, consider creating separate Graphical Scheduler views.

For example:

• A read-only view with Update Mode = Read Only for kiosk displays, supervisors, or users who only need schedule visibility.
• An editable view with Update Mode = Allow Writes for planners or schedulers who are responsible for making scheduling changes.
