Use Quality Inspection Templates

You are here:

A Quality Inspection Template is a test plan containing a set of questions and data points that you want to collect. When a test is created, the associated Quality Inspection template is used to define the inspection fields that appear on the test.

Fields

Field Description
Code Specifies the short code to identify the template. You can enter a maximum of 20 characters, both numbers and letters.
Description Specifies the friendly description for the template. You can enter a maximum of 100 characters, both numbers and letters.
Quality Inspection Nos. Specifies the number series used for quality inspection documents. When this optional field is defined then this no. series will be used instead of what is defined on the Quality Inspector Setup page.
Caption Expression Specifies the data caption expression for a Quality Inspection Test to use. When blank, the system will use the Default Caption Expression field defined on the Quality Inspector Setup page.
Default Inspection Level If using AQL, specifies the default inspection level that will be applied when a test is created.

This is not the AQL numbered level but is the overall level itself.

General Level I: Requires the smallest sample size, making it the most cost-efficient option.

General Level II: This is the standard and most widely used level, often the default setting.

General Level III: Requires inspecting a larger number of samples, making it the most stringent level.

Special levels 1 through 4 are typically used for special tests that need a smaller sample size.

Special levels are typically found in destructive test processes, or where the testing process tends to be costly.

Default AQL Grouping Code If using AQL, specifies a grouping code to allow maintaining separate AQL configurations. If only using one, leave this blank.

Multiple AQL Grouping Codes are intended to be used for larger organizations where there might be different ISO standards that are configured within the same company.

Default AQL If using AQL, specifies the default AQL level. Typical values are 0.065, 0.1, 0.15, 0.25, 0.4, 0.65, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5, 4, 6.5. You can create your own values in the AQL configuration table.
Template Type Template Type can help control how data is entered and how options are typically displayed. Selecting the “Balloon/Bubble” type will enable the Balloon No./Characteristic No. and Characteristic Designator columns to be displayed.

If your test is related to building to an engineering specification with callouts, or if you need to generate a FAIR Form 3 report then you would be using the Balloon/Bubble template type.

Sample Source Sample Source determines how the Sample Size initially gets set. Values are rounded up to the nearest whole number. Examples would be a fixed quantity, percent of quantity, or using an AQL configuration.

AQL configuration allows setting the sample source by configurable ISO AQL Tables.

For more simpler processes you can also choose specific fixed amounts or percentages.

Sample Fixed Amount When Sample Source is set to a fixed quantity then this represents a discrete fixed sample size. Samples can only be discrete units.
Sample Percentage When Sample Source is set to a percentage then this represents the percent of the source quantity to use. Values will be rounded to the highest discrete amount.

Template Line Fields

Template Line Fields Description
Template Code Specifies the short code to identify the template.
Line No. The line no. for the given template line.
Field Code The field code for the given template line.
Description A description of the given template line.
Field Type The data type of the field.
Allowable Values Specifies an expression for the range of values that can be entered or selected for the line
Sample Summary Specifies how the system summarizes the samples taken on the test line when using samples.
Copied From Template Code Used to track where a template was copied from.

This is information only to assist with managing ‘Master’ templates.

Default Value A default value to set on the test.
Expression Formula Specifies the formula for the expression content when using expression field types.
Balloon No. Specifies a reference to the balloon number/Characteristic No. on the main engineering document associated with this template. This is used in AS9102 First Article Inspection Reporting Form 3 (FAIR Form-3) for section 5.
Characteristic Designator References the characteristic designator on the main engineering document associated with this template. This is used in AS9102 First Article Inspection Reporting Form 3 (FAIR Form-3) for section 7. “Characteristic designators” are identified on engineering documents. Applicable design engineering also establishes definitions of those designators (including major/minor characteristics, key characteristics, structural characteristics, etc.). AS9102 does not define these standards and they can be drawing specific.
Unit of Measure The unit of measure for the field.

This is information only, Quality Inspector does not convert recorded measurements in different units of measure.

Create a new template

Prerequisite

  • Ensure the Assisted Setup Wizard was run.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the Quality Inspection Templates list page.
  2. In the action bar area, click “New” and view the newly opened card page.
  3. Type in a unique code for the new template.
  4. Type in a description for the new template.
  5. If not using the no. series defined on the Quality Inspector Setup page, specify the no. series to be used in “Quality Inspection Nos.”.
  6. If not using the default caption expression defined on the “Quality Inspector Setup” page, specify the expression in “Caption Expression”.
  7. Leave the “Template Type” set to “General”. See (x) for generating a template with a characteristic reference.
  8. If using Acceptable Quality Limits, set the “Default AQL Grouping Code”, “Default Inspection Level”, and “Default Acceptable Quality Limit”.
  9. In the “Lines” section, select the “Add Field(s) To This Template” action.
  10. Use the “Quality Inspector Field Wizard” to add measurement lines to the template. These will be the blueprint for the inspections performed on the test.
