Quick Guide to Sampling and Skip-Lot in Quality Inspector

You are here:

Quality Inspector supports sampling within an inspection and skip-lot rules that control how often inspections occur. This guide gives resellers the essentials and links to configuration examples.

Sampling determines how many units to inspect: a fixed quantity, a percentage, or an AQL-based sample. AQL (Acceptance Quality Limit) uses the lot quantity, inspection level, and configured sampling plan to determine the sample size and acceptance/rejection limits. Skip-lot determines which receipt or production occurrences require inspection, such as testing one receipt and skipping the next four. Sampling and skip-lot can be combined: skip-lot decides when to inspect, and sampling decides how much to inspect.

Skip-Lot can be used with the Inspection Bins feature to conditionally re-direct the destination bin on warehouse put-aways for conditional holds when skip-lot determines that testing is required for a given batch.

Start Here

Configure Skip-Lot

Create a Skip Lot Rule, then connect it to the applicable Quality Inspection Test Generation Rule. The generation rule determines which items, vendors, and processes it applies to; the skip-lot rule determines whether an automatic inspection is created or skipped.

Before configuring: confirm whether the customer means every receipt occurrence or every unique lot number, whether reduced inspection requires confirmed passing results, and what should happen after a failure. Skip-lot controls automatic test generation; manually created tests do not follow or advance its sequence.

Use Inspection Bins with Sampling and Skip-Lot

Inspection bins direct inventory requiring inspection to a designated QC bin during warehouse put-away. When combined with skip-lot, receipts selected for inspection can have their sample quantity directed to the inspection bin and the remaining quantity directed to regular storage. When skip-lot skips inspection and no other qualifying test exists, inspection-bin routing does not apply.

Enable Put Away to Inspection Bin on the Item Card and configure the inspection bin for the item and location. This feature requires warehouse item tracking and a qualifying Quality Inspection Test created before the put-away.
