Windows Scanner Installation

Windows Scanner Installation

You are here:

While the specifics for setting up each scanner differ based on the make and model, the steps below are applicable to all and required. Each of the steps are outlined in more detail in the following sections.

  1. Configure the WIFI.
  2. Install the .NET Messages CAB.
  3. Install the Warehouse Insight CAB.
  4. Set the Prefix, Suffix, and Data Separators.
  5. Configure Power Settings (optional).

Configure WIFI

The specifics for configuring WIFI vary based on the device and network environment. However, the device must be able to reach the Warehouse Insight web service for the application to be able to communicate with Business Central.

For testing purposes, if your device can reach the Warehouse Insight web service using Internet Explorer, your WIFI is working.

The following steps for configuring are based on a DataLogic Skorpio X3 but are similar for other models.

  1. Open WIFI configuration tool (Start à Settings à Connections à SCU – Summit Client Utility).
  2. Select Profile.
  3. Press Scan.
  4. Choose the SSID you wish to connect to.
  5. Press Configure.
  6. Press Yes to accept the creation of a new profile.
  7. Enter the WIFI access code and press OK.
  8. Change details on the newly created profile if required.
  9. Select Main and press Yes to commit changes.
  10. Select the newly created profile from the Active Profile
  11. Press OK to close.

Install .NET Messages CAB

The Warehouse Insight application requires the Microsoft .NET Messages CAB be installed which is typically not present initially on devices. To install the .CAB file, complete the following:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Enter the following URL (replace the version number with the first two parts of the version you are installing; e.g., “2.0.7380.0” would just be “2.0”): https://app.dmsiworks.com/wp-content/uploads/endpoints/warehouse-insight/releases/2.0/software/NETCFv35.Messages.EN.cab
  1. Press Yes to download and install the .cab file.
  2. Press OK after installation completes.

Install Warehouse Insight CAB

The Warehouse Insight CAB file is the main application installer. To install the .CAB file, complete the following:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Enter the following URL (replace the version number with the first two parts of the version you are installing; e.g., “2.0.7380.0” would just be “2.0”): https://app.dmsiworks.com/wp-content/uploads/endpoints/warehouse-insight/releases/2.0/software/WHI_Scanner_Install.CAB
  1. Press Yes to download and install the .cab file.
  2. Press OK after installation completes.

Set Prefix, Suffix and Data Separators

The Warehouse Insight application requires < be placed in front of any barcode scans and > after. If these are not set, scans are not registered in the application.

Remove post scanning codes (e.g., carriage returns) tabs. If you do not remove, unexpected behavior may occur in the application (e.g., messages/errors being automatically hidden or dialogs automatically closing).

The following steps for configuring are based on a DataLogic Skorpio X3. For other models, change the values manually.

  1. Press the Decoding link (Start > Settings > System > Decoding).
  2. Open the Formatting page (Config… > General > Formatting).
  3. enter < for the Label Prefix.
  4. Enter > for the Label Suffix.
  5. Leave the Data Separator blank.

Configure Power Settings (Optional)

We recommend adjusting the power settings and backlight settings to prevent the devices from going to sleep during normal usage. These changes are optional but considered best practice.

The following steps for configuring are based on a DataLogic Skorpio X3 but are similar for other models.

  1. Open the Power settings (Start > Settings > System > Power).
  2. Select Auto-Off.
  3. Uncheck both power options.
  1. Press OK to save the changes.
  2. Open the Backlight settings (Start > Settings > System > Backlight).
  3. Uncheck Dim if idle for 15 seconds.
  4. Select Auto-Off.
  5. Uncheck both backlight options.
  6. Press OK to save the changes.
