      Hi,

I am trying to edit the Item Category Description in the Configurator Item Categories page, but I’m unable to do so.

The customer requirement is to include the attributes selected during item creation (via the configurator) in the Sales Quote description. However, the Sales Quote description is limited to 100 characters, and the Item Description Template is limited to 250 characters. Since each item category has more than 10 attributes, we are unable to accommodate a complete description within these limits.
As a workaround, we are exploring the use of Description 2 in the Sales Quote and the Item Category Description in the Configurator Item Categories.

Is there any alternative approach to handle this requirement more effectively?

      Kindly advise.

        Hello Hritika Seth,

Depending on the Product Configurator version you have installed it may not be possible to edit it.

If it is before 4.0 you cannot edit the Configurator Item Category’s description as it is just a lookup to the linked Business Central Item Category’s description.

In the product’s 4.0 release, we removed the requirement to have Configurator Item Categories linked to Business Central Item Categories, and with this we introduced an editable “Description” field for the category.

When the Product Configurator builds the configured item’s description you may run into base Business Central field limitations, that is the description will be at most 150 characters – 100 characters from the item’s “Description” field and 50 characters from the items “Description 2” field.

It will build the description based on the category’s “Item Description Template” and then try to fit as many characters as it can into those 2 fields. Extended text (base Business Central functionality) is commonly used when more information about the product needs to be displayed or presented on the sales document than what can fit in the item’s description. When you set up the category’s option choices you can set their “Add Extended Text” field to ‘Yes’ and when the choice is included in the configuration it will add it to the configured item’s extended text. When the configured item is added to the sales line you can then insert its extended text which will present these details on the sales document.

        Thank you,
