Would it be possible (either natively or through a reasonably simple app) to use Shop Floor Insights to require specific serial numbers as the components in a production (or assembly) step?

For each customer, we’re going to be handling hundreds of unique items drawn from a space of 4.4m possible combinations of options.  We *also* need to uniquely label these items and a serial number seems like the only/best native way (in BC) to create/track an identity without an explosion in the number of possible items.

One of the steps in our process will require us to package specific serial numbers together.  Normally, our processes will keep these items together, but I’m trying to find a way to implement a validation step.  Something like a pick list.  Gun everything in the box… know if you have a wrong or missing item.

Sorry for being a little vague, but I’m assembling systems to support a proprietary process.

Out of the box no you will not be able to specify the Serial numbers beforehand or automate them, on Shop Floor itself there is no validation on serial numbers ( item tracking). However once you post it through to the consumption journal, once you try to post it it will fails as the validation happens in Business Central.

Customization for your proposed scenario, would be an option for this case.
