November 13, 2025 at 5:07 amPost count: 4I am working with a client who needs to configure items and BOMs in several levels.
Client produces the items in several levels, highest level is painted, semi-finished is unpainted – both are in inventory, both are sellable and both are manufactured (several other Option Choices are also in the configuration, but keeping the example simple)
Example
Item FG-117-3600 – colour=117, other option choices = 3600
Item FS-000-3600 – Unpainted, with same option choicesI am able to configure this scenario, using sub-configurations – but only if i select all the option choices twice (once for each item)
Is it possible to make the configuration, so the Option Choices can be transferred and reused in the sub-configuration?
Or do you have any alternative advices, on how to setup this scenario?

There is no out-of-the-box functionality that would automatically transfer the Option Choice selections once you begin configuring the sub-configuration.
The only way to speed up this process is to designate the option choice(s) needed as a Default Choice within the sub-configuration, so that once you open the sub-configuration the option choices are automatically added to the line.
Thank you,

The take away is that there is no functionality to automatically transfer option choices to the sub-configuration from the primary configuration.
Out-of-the-box, the only way you could do this would be to default (Default Choice column) your option choices within the sub-configuration item category code to avoid selecting your option choices twice. (But this means that the 3600 option choice(s) must have a 1 to 1 relationship with the sub-configuration, which would not be viable for a dynamic configured item).
Your scenario is best handled by a customization, in contrast to the work around provided which attempts to circumvent a process not supported by the application.
Thank you,
