Similar functionality to existing lot/serial level blocking but at ILE level.

In this hypothetical example if you had an untracked item with two positive entries, one with a quantity of 3 in a ‘passed’ state, and another also with quantity of 3 in a failed state, with no item tracking involved, and someone tried to sell 5 you’d be looking for an ability to only allow not just 3 but also the specific 3 from being sold? If they then chose to sell only 3 you’d then expect an ability to choose the specific item ledger entry (without lot, serial, package) for what is being sold, is that correct?
Some alternatives to consider depending on the underlying goal or scenario would be to consider moving the items to a quarantine location or quarantine bin, as this approach would also allow only 3 to show in your ‘available’ inventory levels.
If you needed to prevent picking the specific instance of 3 you’d probably want to give both Business Central and the people on the floor some clues such as item tracking (lot, package, serial), or even a simpler approach such as a physical indicator such as a label. In the case of something like a label though you’d need to consider the “now what”, i.e if it’s labelled bad why is it still on the shelf and not in an instruction to move to a disposal bin, or to be negated out of inventory, etc… (which you can do automatically with Business Central workflows).
Moving the inventory (both in the virtual world to a quarantine location and/or bin, as well as the physical world of physically moving the unacceptable goods to a different shelf/area/quarantine location) could also be another approach to consider, since this could reduce available inventory to pick but also have a physical representation in the real world (you can’t pick it to ship off the shelf if it’s not there).
If you’re looking at some options to solve a problem for an existing customer or a prospect send me a note to [email protected] and we can schedule a time to walk through the scenario that you’re encountering and come up with some ideas and approaches that might work for you.
