We hit this in our 3PL operation and figured it was worth raising here.
When an order is set to ship complete in BC (Shipping Advice = Complete), BC won’t let us post it short, which is great. The problem is nothing stops an operator from pulling a carrier label before the order is fully packed. Once there’s a label on the box, it can leave the dock, and now we’ve physically shipped an incomplete order even though the system would never have let us post it that way. So the protection is there on the transaction side, but not on the floor, which is exactly where the mistake happens.
What we’d really like is an optional setting: for Complete advice orders only, don’t allow GetLabel until everything on the order is packed. Once it’s all packed, labels work normally, including across multiple boxes. Partial orders wouldn’t change at all, so anyone who packs and labels partials on purpose isn’t affected. Leave it off by default and it stays out of everyone’s way.
We’re building it on our side for now with the extension points, but it feels like something most ship complete shops would want, so hopefully it’s worth a spot on the roadmap.
