How to Modify an MxAPS Schedule

You are here:

MxAPS schedules are modified by changing scheduling inputs, then generating or regenerating the schedule.

Changes do not affect the schedule until a new schedule is generated.

Common Ways to Modify a Schedule

You can modify a schedule by:

  1. Changing scheduling attributes on production order operations.
  2. Editing supported fields on the Machine Schedule Summary page.
  3. Moving an operation to a different machine.
  4. Grouping operations with an order set.

Option 1: Change Scheduling Attributes on an Operation

Use this when a production order or operation should schedule earlier, later, or differently based on the scheduling rules.

  1. Search for the applicable production order list:
    • Planned Production Orders
    • Firm Planned Production Orders
    • Released Production Orders
  2. Open the production order.
  3. Select the production order line.
  4. Choose Line > Routing.
  5. On the Prod. Order Routing page, update the relevant fields.

    Common fields include:

    Field Use
Priority Changes the priority used by scheduling rules.
Rank Forces the operation into a scheduling position. Use carefully.
Start After DateTime Prevents the operation from starting before a specific date and time.
Order Set Groups operations so they run together.
  6. Generate the schedule again.

Option 2: Edit Fields on Machine Schedule Summary

Some schedule changes can be made directly on the Machine Schedule Summary page.

Editable fields include:

  1. Priority
  2. Class
  3. Order Set No.
  4. Moved-To Machine No.
  5. Split Quantity

After editing, generate the schedule again.

Option 3: Move an Operation to a Different Machine

Use this when an operation should run on a different machine than the one MxAPS selected.

Setup Requirement

  1. Search for MxAPS Setup.
  2. Find Consider Schedule History.
  3. Set Consider Past Moves to Include Active Schedule.

Moves are only considered from the active schedule when this setting is enabled.

Move the Operation

  1. Open the active schedule result.
  2. Open the Machine Schedule Summary.
  3. Find the operation to move.
  4. Set Moved-To Machine No. to the machine where the operation should run.
  5. Generate the schedule again.

MxAPS uses the move when creating the new schedule.

Option 4: Group Operations with an Order Set

Use an order set when multiple operations should run together.

From Machine Schedule Summary

  1. Open the active schedule result.
  2. Open the Machine Schedule Summary.
  3. Find the operations to group.
  4. Set the same Order Set No. on each operation.
  5. Generate the schedule again.

From the Production Order

  1. Open the production order.
  2. Select the production order line.
  3. Choose Line > Routing.
  4. Set the same Order Set on each relevant routing operation.
  5. Generate the schedule again.

Important Notes About Order Sets

All operations with the same Order Set No. are grouped together for scheduling.

Use care when creating groups. Do not group operations that should not run on the same machine center.

To help control grouping, review these routing fields when applicable:

  1. Common Machine No.
  2. Common Routing Link Code

Order set behavior may affect:

  1. Component item usage.
  2. Routing times.
  3. Partial output reporting.
  4. Machine selection.

Additional modifications may be required if the standard grouping behavior does not match the customer’s expected process.

Best Practices

  1. Use Priority before using Rank.
  2. Use Rank only when a forced sequence is required.
  3. Enable Consider Past Moves only when manual moves should influence future schedule runs.
  4. Keep order sets limited to operations that truly need to run together.
  5. Regenerate the schedule after making changes.
  6. Review the resulting machine assignments, start times, finish times, and late operations.

Troubleshooting

If the change did not affect the schedule, check:

  1. The schedule was regenerated.
  2. The production order was included in the schedule filters.
  3. The edited schedule result is the active result, if using manual moves.
  4. Consider Past Moves is set to Include Active Schedule, if using moved machines.
  5. The scheduling rules use the field that was changed.
  6. Material or capacity constraints are preventing the expected change.
  7. Order sets are not grouping incompatible operations.
