I have a few users having issues with DocXtender. I was too the FireFox browser. I can drag & drop with MS Edge and Google Chrome and the BC App. I have tried clearing the cache in FireFox without any luck. The users that are having issues were working up until about a month ago, which is about the same time my FireFox stopped working. The users have full access to the SharePoint site where DocXtender places the files.

Firefox is working fine here with SharePoint. Here are some things to check on your PC:

      1. Make sure that pop-ups and URL links are not being blocked in the browser or by a third party security application on the workstation. Check the workstation and browser for all security apps including: browser add-ons, firewall, anti-virus, anti-malware, popup blocker, spam blocker, app approvals. A good test would be to try it on a brand new PC or VM that has nothing but the operating system installed.

      2. Can the user open the SharePoint site in the same browser as Business Central without being prompted to login or an app approval? If they are prompted, DocXtender will not be able to connect automatically. The login is just cached in a browser SharePoint cookie, nothing is stored in Business Central. This is exactly the same as if you log into SharePoint and use the “remember me” option. Running in a private window or different browser, or logging out of the Microsoft login, will prompt you to log into SharePoint again. If the browser cannot save the SharePoint login it will not be able to retrieve the link after the file is sent.

      3. Make sure that both the SharePoint Site and SharePoint Host fields are filled in on DocXtender Setup (must be first level site, not a sub-site).

      4. A file in SharePoint will be saved as a link (not an attachment) so some pages may need to be personalized to show the Links tab in addition to the Attachments tab.

      5. Can the user manually create SharePoint folders and drag & drop a file into the new folder when not using DocXtender?

      6. Try removing the SharePoint Folder from the DocXtender Setup to see if that helps. The user might have access to the root SharePoint site, but not to sub-folders.

7: Try a different browser (Chrome or Firefox). Do not use incognito or private mode as it will not have access to the cookies required to connect to SharePoint.

      8. If this is a duplicate file you want to add, change Duplicate Behavior to Replace or Automatically Rename on the DocXtender Setup page.

      9. DocXtender does not manage the SharePoint login, so if you still cannot log into SharePoint, set “File Storage Behavior” = Document Attachments in DocXtender Setup to use regular Business Central attachments.

      10. DocXtender does not control the refresh of the Attachment or Link factboxes, so try backing out of the record and re-opening it to see if the link shows up.

      11. Check the Business Central Admin Center for any app updates.

Does DocXtender keep the document attached through the document process flow? In other words, if a document is attached to an opportunity that becomes an order and later invoiced, does the link that was created on the opportunity show on the posted sales invoice?

DocXtender is only used for adding attachments. It is not involved in flowing attachment links to posted documents, so for that you would need to talk directly to your Business Central Partner or Microsoft.

When trying to attach a file from item list or item card, browser opens another window asking to authenticate. After successful authentication, it opens another instance of BC and three dots on the DocXtender logo continue to animate. I was not able to attach anything. Tried all the different browsers and different OS. What am i missing? I was expecting a confirmation dialog according to Setup.

I have resolved the save to SharePoint issue, but now when it saves and looks like it’s complete, there is no link or notation in the Attachments section?

This indicates that something in your browser or workstation is blocking the return data from SharePoint.
DocXtender does not manage your SharePoint connection, it just uses your browser’s existing connection to SharePoint.
You may need to get your IT departmwnt to make sure that pop-ups and URL links are not being blocked in your browser or by a third party security application on the workstation. Check the workstation and browser for all security apps including: browser add-ons, firewall, anti-virus, anti-malware, popup blocker, spam blocker. A good test would be to try it on a brand new PC or VM that has nothing but the operating system installed.

For additional troubleshooting assistance, you will need to contact your Business Central partner direct.

I’m having an issue where I want to save to Sharepoint, but when I drag the file and drop the 3 dots just keep alternating and nothing ever happens. Link is no created in attachments and file not saved to Sharepoint. I can turn off Sharepoint and works fine. Any ideas?

Anyone have docxtender installed on a self hosted version of business central?

DocXtender is not available for on-premise installs – it is for Microsoft Business Central SaaS only.

    Hi Support,

what if i would like to use this og General Journal where attachments aren’t stored in Document Attachment but in Inc. Doc. Attachment Overview (table 137).

    Can this be done?

    • Travis Plett
Travis Plett February 21, 2023 at 2:38 pm

      Only document attachments are supported.
The Business Central page must have a “Document Attachment FactBox” pointing at a valid single record on any page you want to use DocXtender. The Attachment or Link factbox (not just the tab) must also be visible, so you may need to open personalization to add it. To add attachments to any Business Central page that does not include the factbox, see: http://kb.dmsiworks.com/knowledge-base/extend-for-drag-and-drop-document-attachments-to-any-table-and-page/ (this only adds the drag & drop function – you still need to add the attachment function to the page first).
Trying to attach files to journals would not be easy since you would first need to customize for the attachments and then add logic to handle where they flow to (attachments do not flow to related records unless the logic exists). Journal attachments have not been tested, so results of attempting them are unknown and not covered by support.

The extension is attempting to upload an attachment tied to the Purchase Line rather than the Purchase Header. Please advise.

    Hi Support,

    users are getting following message
“DocXtender was not able to create a sharePoint link.
    SharePoint’s Message: Error not fund.
Please review your Sharepoint Host, Site, and Folder in the DocXtender setup page.
if this is a duplicate file you want to add. change Duplicate behavior to Replace or Automatically rename”

User has “super” Access and DocXtender setup is already have setup with “Automatic Rename”
